Additional Information

Dr. Deacon is South African by birth, but has been living in the US since 1997. She joined the HR faculty in 2007 after completing her Ph.D. in ecological-community psychology at Michigan State University. Her overarching research interests relate to the development of an understanding of cross-cultural interpretations of health and the encouragement of health and well-being in diverse communities. She is particularly interested in factors that support women’s recovery from the impacts of warfare. Additionally, she is interested in better understanding factors that support the attainment of health and well-being within marginalized communities, both in the United States and abroad. The core and elective courses that I teach are generally representative of my research interests and focus on social justice, social change, and gender.
