To the Human Relations Department,
My name is Mashaela Stripling and I want to first thank each of you for playing a part in my journey throughout my undergraduate and graduate career. I came to OU thinking I knew what I wanted to do, but after my first semester, I had no idea what direction I wanted to go it. When I found out about the Human Relations department, my life was forever changed. From the sincere professors, to the caring staff, the Human Relations department took me in and I felt like it was my home! I was taught so many things from classroom discussions, to lunch with faculty and those are memories I will always cherish.
My Human Relations degree taught me what service and advocacy is and after taking courses with Dr. Henderson, Dr. Bert, Dr. Martin and so many others, I was truly inspired to go out and make a tremendous impact in the world. The advisors are one in a million and really work to provide the best individualized services. Cathy Yeaman in Advanced Programs has helped me keep my sanity while working full-time and striving to complete my masters degree. I am forever grateful for all of her support, encouragement and positive attitude.
I currently work for OSU-OKC as a Counselor/Coordinator in Student Support Services and I am also a certified Case Manager. I previously worked for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse as a Care Coordinator. I love getting to help students find their passion and motivate them throughout their college journey. I am able to be an advocate for access to education and resources for them and my Human Relations degree taught me the necessary skills needed to be in this position. Human Relations taught me so many things, but I think one of the most important things that I was taught, was to stand for what I believe in and to help create change! After I complete my Master's in Human Relations, I plan to complete all of the necessary steps to become a Licensed Professional Counselor.
This is a wonderful program and it will definitely help you grow as a person! Thanks to all the incredible staff and faculty who have made my journey an unforgettable one!
