"Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) are master's-degreed mental health service providers, trained to work with individuals, families, and groups in treating mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders. LPCs make up a large percentage of the workforce employed in community mental health centers, agencies, and organizations." (American Counseling Association, 2011).
LPCs are licensed and regulated by the state. In Oklahoma, state licensure requirements include possession of a master's degree in counseling or a counseling equivalent such as our MHR degree plus additional coursework. LPC candidates must complete a total of sixty hours of approved LPC coursework including courses in human growth and development, effective counseling strategies, ethical practice, and other core knowledge areas.
