I don't know how long you have been chair but congratulations. We are co-owners of one of the finest academic departments ever designed for the scope and quality is its purpose. I started in 1982 and completed the degree in 1986, most of this from Guam where I was stationed at the time with the USAF. I had the pleasure of learning directly from teachers like Tom Boyd, and George Henderson, and even characters like Bill Lemons. There were many others. I chose to go the practicum route and worked with an organization in Guam that worked with victims of abuse and sexual assault. It was totally out of the box for me and so rewarding. The majority of courses I took were geared toward organizational development related issues and I came to love this field of inquiry.
I continued my military career for another 10 years until retiring in 1994 to return to Oklahoma City where I started. A few years later I graduated from OSU with an Ed.D. and began my own college teaching career having now served in various roles at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond. Here I've served as founding director of our MBA, professor in the College of Business, Dean of Graduate Schools, and Assoc. VP for Academic Affairs. I've finally grew weary of administration and have returned to teaching full time though I remain Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing. I tell you all this to say that it was because of my HR degree that I was inspired to become a teacher. It challenged and prepared me in ways I can't even begin to explain in a few words.
I am grateful to the faculty of OUHR that took the time to travel to Guam to ensure I received a quality masters program away from campus. If I can ever be of assistance to the department, please let me know. I've been sending students your way for years.
Donald V. Drew, Ed.D.
